Learning & Training

Core to the FNHDA’s mandate is providing members with opportunities for learning and skills-building that help to build Health Director capacity. Programs are created by Health Directors, for Health Directors — an approach that ensures Health Director perspectives inform curriculum development.

Health Director Certificate Program

Structured as an 8-module, multidisciplinary program for practicing Health Directors, the Certificate combines different areas of study such as finance, healthcare, governance and communications. Selected topics have been identified as foundational to Health Directors with courses facilitated (taught) by subject matter experts.

Value the program provides

We use a two-eyed seeing approach, based in the concept of two cultures (First Nations and European) equally reflected and valued in the learning environment including: languages, epistemologies, methods, norms and practices. In addition, we use practice-based learning that combines theory and work experience with a structured reflective process throughout.

Who is the program for

Practicing Health Directors are eligible to apply for the Certificate program with support from their Chiefs. The initial cohort is for 24 individuals across each of the five regions in BC.

Course and Enrolment Information

The program will be delivered online and via video conference, requiring two hours each week with instructors in addition to time for preparation and assignments. The first cohort is scheduled to launch in early spring 2021. Applications require a letter of support from each applicant’s Chief and will be reviewed by an Admissions Committee.
