Celebrating Pride: Building Healthy and Inclusive Communities

As we celebrate Pride Month, the First Nations Health Directors Association (FNHDA) reaffirms our commitment to equity, inclusion, and the well-being of Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and 2S/LGBTQQIA+ relatives across our Nations. Pride is a time to honour the strength, resilience, and leadership of all people, especially those who advocate for the right to live and love authentically.

Within Indigenous communities, Two-Spirit people have long held sacred roles and wisdom, enriching our traditions with their powerful presence, guidance and contributions. Yet, we acknowledge that many still face barriers to accessing safe healthcare, cultural support, and community acceptance. As Health Directors, we stand in solidarity with those working to dismantle these barriers, ensuring that everyone is treated with the dignity and care they deserve.

This Pride Month, let us reflect, celebrate and take meaningful action. Let us honour the voices of Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and all 2S/LGBTQQIA+ relatives, support inclusive healthcare practices, and continue to build a system of health and wellness where all identities are respected and included. Through understanding and allyship, we build stronger, healthier communities with welcoming and supportive spaces for all. Happy Pride Month!

With gratitude and commitment,

Nauness, Janice George
FNHDA Board President
